Welcome to Barrow Primary School

I am delighted to introduce this website which I hope provides you with an insight into all that makes Barrow CEVC Primary School such an excellent place to learn and 'live life to the full' (John 10:10).

I am immensely proud to be the Headteacher of this vibrant learning community where excellence, equality and high expectations of all pupils arise from our Christian vision. For me, the question of how our children can thrive at Barrow is always paramount in the decision making within the school. I am passionate about providing our children with exciting, creative and meaningful experiences, which build their enthusiasm for learning and help them to grow and develop positively in character and spirituality. Our aim is for all of our pupils to find 'abundant life' (John 10:10) and to prepare them to thrive in a rapidly changing world where values and morals are constantly challenged. Children at Barrow are valued as individuals and we are passionately committed to their achievement, personal growth and excellence in everything we do.

We have a hugely talented and committed staff team to make sure that our curriculum, teaching and learning, care and support meets the different needs of every young person. Our tradition of success is also built on a firm foundation of strong Christian values and pastoral care; we ensure a climate for learning which is well ordered, safe, calm and focused on achievement and success. Just like the children, the thriving and personal and professional development of staff is of high importance.

The attainment of our pupils is excellent when compared to the national average. Governors, staff, children, parents and the community were all very pleased to have the achievements of our school recognised by Ofsted with Outstanding judgements in all areas, placing us in the top 6% of primary schools nationally.

We aim to provide a respectful and supportive environment where children have opportunities to make good choices which will develop their skills for lifelong learning.

We aim to achieve this through:

Providing a positive environment for children to enjoy learning a rich, engaging and carefully planned curriculum to excite and enhance learning, based on our Christian vision of 'abundant life' (John 10:10).

Developing children’s confidence to persevere and be independent by sharing our successes and embracing our challenges.

Giving opportunities for children to make a positive contribution to the community and society through fostering an ethos of understanding and inclusion.

Promoting Christian values and guiding children in their spiritual and moral development, whilst giving them an awareness of diversity within Christian practise, other religions and their associated cultures.

We appreciate the key role of parents, carers and wider families in a child’s education and continually strive to develop effective partnerships between home and school. By choosing Barrow School for your child, we hope you are committing yourself to working with us for your child’s future in our caring, aspirational school.

I have pleasure in inviting you to visit the school to meet our children and staff and to judge for yourself what makes this such a special community in which to learn and thrive. Exploring this website will give you a clear idea of the culture and ethos of our outstanding school but please contact us if you need to find out more.
