‘No Idling Campaign’ at Barrow School

Dear Parents & Carers

As part of our package of Wellbeing Week initiatives, we are launching a ‘No Idling Campaign’ to improve the quality of air around our school. This means that we will be establishing the school site as a
‘No Idling Zone’ to improve air quality and create a healthier environment for children, teachers and parents. From today, all vehicle drivers are asked to turn their engines off whilst they wait on or in the near vicinity of the school site.

The emissions that come from vehicle exhausts are harmful for everyone, especially children, who breathe more and at a faster rate than adults. Vehicle exhaust fumes in our air contains many pollutants that are linked to asthma and other lung diseases, allergies, heart disease, cancer and other health problems. We will also be taking part in Clean Air Day on Thursday, 20th June. This will be an opportunity for the children to learn about air pollution and how we can all make better choices to make the air we breathe cleaner and safer for everyone.

In the meantime, please support our No Idling Campaign and turn off your car whilst waiting to drop off or pick up children. Together, we can make a real difference and improve the quality of air we all breathe.

Many thanks for your support in this important matter.

Yours faithfully

Helen Ashe
